Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico
This 390,000 square foot center features four flexible performance spaces for large-scale touring acts, student productions, performing arts education, and community groups. Two proscenium theatres—an 1,800-seat multipurpose concert hall and a 900-seat multipurpose theatre—each feature stepped-down balconies, demountable orchestra shells, full stagehouses, multiple orchestra lifts, and adjustable acoustic systems, making them incredibly adaptable and intimate. For experimental theatre, dance, rehearsals, and workshops, we designed a flexible 400-seat theatre that can be arranged in arena, endstage, thrust, or traverse configurations. We also designed a 220-seat endstage studio theatre for dance, small-scale productions, and rehearsals. The arts center is the fourth building to open in the university’s visionary, multi-facility arts district. The district—known as the Centro Cultural Universitario—also includes a touring venue (Auditorio Telmex), public square/amphitheatre, and library, as well as a museum and academic building which are currently in construction.
