Precious Okoyomon: the sun eats her children
Exploring the ideas of vulnerability and traditionally docile creatures showing their claws, “the sun eats her children”—from globally-celebrated artist Precious Okoyomon—is an installation of poisonous flowers inside of a deteriorating Italian church. Among butterflies and collapsing stonework, the center of the installation is a large stuffed bear (“Beloved”) that awakens and screams at irregular intervals. To help Precious achieve this effect, we develop an animatronic systems with components for Beloved’s slow breathing motion, their audio voice box, and their sleepy eye movement.
