Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay
One of the most important performing arts complexes in Asia, this 645,000 square foot center boasts a versatile collection of performance spaces including a world-renowned concert hall, versatile multipurpose theatre, recital hall, studio theatre and two outdoor amphitheatres. The 1,600-seat concert hall features three adjustable acoustic canopies, 1,000 square meters of acoustic banners, and 58 adjustable concrete acoustic doors that connect to reverberation chambers and can be opened or closed to adjust the room’s tone. The horseshoe-shaped, 2,000-seat multipurpose theatre boasts the largest stage in Singapore and is capable of hosting Chinese opera or Indian dance—where musicians and performers share the stage. The theatre’s adjustable proscenium ranges from 45 to 54 feet and the room has a full stagehouse and orchestra pit. The facility also includes a shopping mall and a 250,000 square foot library devoted to music, dance, theatre, and film.

This performing arts center is a major milestone in the redevelopment of downtown Charlotte, and features two versatile performance spaces, an orchestra rehearsal room, and support spaces. The 2,100-seat Belk Theater is a contemporary horseshoe-shaped theatre with an intimate atmosphere and excellent acoustics. The ceiling of the theatre is covered by a fiber optic network, which functions as the main auditorium’s house lighting. The Booth Playhouse is a 440-seat proscenium theatre with cabaret and in-the-round configurations. The downtown redevelopment project also includes a 60-story office tower for NCNB and Founders Hall, a 150-foot-tall glass atrium structure.

The renovated 1,800-seat Carpenter Theatre is the centerpiece of this a new performing arts complex in downtown Richmond. The 1928 movie house was repurposed into the Carpenter Center for the Arts in 1983, and has now been reborn again as the Carpenter Theatre following a top-to-bottom renovation that included a new stagehouse, re-seating, and enlarged lobby area, among many other improvements. The project also included the arts complex's seamless expansion into an adjacent office building, which was renamed Dorothy Pauley Square and now includes the intimate, 200-seat Libby Gottwald Community Playhouse, the multi-purpose Rhythm Hall, an art gallery, classrooms, and office spaces.
