Kennedy Center Theater Lab
In 1987, the comedy Shear Madness was brought in for a short run in the Kennedy Center’s Theater Lab. 20+ years later, it was still running. Theatre Projects worked closely with the Kennedy Center and the producers of Shear Madness to completely update the theatre from a “temporary” fit-out, while managing to keep the same intimacy and flexibility in the 400-seat theatre that has won over audiences and brought the show numerous awards. The renovation included a complete seating and equipment overhaul, plus upgrades to backstage areas, support space, and stage access for performers. All the performance lighting in the Theater Lab was converted to low-energy consuming LED lighting. Our work also included the architectural lighting for the Theater Lab and adjacent areas.
