Nazareth College, Jane and Laurence Glazer Music Performance Center
With more than 20% of its students pursuing degrees in music, Nazareth College needed a new facility to meet the varied and demanding teaching, practice, and performance requirements of its growing music program. While the school already has facilities for choral music, soloists, and small ensembles, it needed a versatile venue for large orchestras and choirs. Theatre Projects designed the Glazer Center’s new 550-seat concert hall specifically for those large ensembles, striking a balance between audience-performer intimacy and a room volume that allows music to “bloom.” The hall features a 60 by 37-foot stage, capable of seating a full orchestra, and adjustable acoustics devices which can “tune” the hall to suit the acoustic conditions of each performance. Equipped with three catwalks, a state-of-the-art lighting system, and high-tech projection and video infrastructure, the hall can also host college events and ceremonies, lectures and guest speakers—even live amplified music and regional touring acts. The 35,000 square foot facility also includes four practice rooms, lobby, front- and back-of-house support spaces, and administrative offices.
