New York University-Abu Dhabi Arts Center
We were hired by NYU Abu Dhabi to review the work of architect Rafel Viñoly and theatre consultant Shen Milson & Wilke in the design of the new arts center. We reviewed the design progress, specified all visual and performing arts furnishings and equipment, and programmed the arts spaces, including sculpture and painting studios, and TV and film production spaces. We collaborated with faculty and administrative staff to ensure each arts discipline had the spaces and equipment they needed, and we gathered a team of noted artists from various disciplines to assist in our evaluation. The design of the center eliminates boundaries between disciplines and provides a versatile, robust slate of performance, educational, and creative spaces. The new facility features a 700-seat multipurpose theatre, a 150-seat studio theatre, an intimate 150-seat recital hall, and a 60-seat screening room. It also includes classrooms, rehearsal and practice rooms, scene and costume shop and a flexible exhibit, banquet, and meeting space.
