Sutton Middle/High School
Through a mix of renovation and addition, the design team linked Sutton’s existing middle and high schools, providing separate and distinct academic areas for each with a core of vibrant, sun-lit, and versatile shared spaces including the cafeteria, courtyard, athletic facilities, and a stunning 415-seat drama theatre. With side boxes, wrap-around balcony, and steeply raked orchestra seating, the venue’s pronounced intimacy means that interactions between performers and audiences are undiluted, immediate, and deeply impactful. With a stage that can handle a 100-person orchestra, the theatre supports both schools’ robust drama and music programs. Energy efficient programmable LED lighting system, adjustable acoustics, and modern AV systems allow the venue to host everything from film and lectures to dance, music, drama, and community arts groups. Divisible rear sections double as lecture halls that can be partitioned from the main space. Additional support and public spaces include a costume shop, choral rehearsal room, dressing rooms, control room and lobby.
