Theatre Projects has recently opened several major projects around the world which will make a huge impact on their communities. Two of these projects - Oslo Opera House in Norway and the Arena & Convention Centre in Liverpool, England - have also recently been nominated for awards at the World Architecture Festival.
This outstanding 21st century opera house is the new home of the Den Norske Opera Company. Designed to be a cultural monument, the building opened to the public on 12 April 2008. The gala opening ceremony was attended by royalty, state leaders, special guests, and the world media. The attendance list for the opening ceremony is testament to the importance of the project, both nationally and internationally. Admiration for the new opera house has been wide-ranging, from its iconic architecture to the impact it has had on the local community and regeneration of the city. The Norwegian Institute of Architects recently devoted an entire edition of their Arkitektur magazine to the new facilities, highlighting the importance of this project.
This spectacular new venue cleverly combines a world class convention center and arena facility for concerts and sporting events. The building opened on 25 January 2008 in time for the landmark opening celebrations of Liverpool's year as the European Capital of Culture and is one of the largest meeting facilities in the UK. As the only BREEM accredited venue in the country, the center promotes best practice in sustainable development and actively contributes to the regeneration of the historic Mersey waterfront dockland area.
The World Architecture Festival is a unique event which recognizes world-class architecture from around the world. The Festival will take place in Barcelona on 22-24 October and the winners of these prestigious awards will be announced then.
