What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a full-time Consultant (equipment design) to join our team in New England.
This position is intended to be located in our Norwalk, Connecticut, office, but candidates in Denver and New York will also be considered. Please note that proof of full COVID vaccination is required for employment with the US company.
The level of seniority we’re looking for in this position is Consultant (4-7 years technical director or integrator/installer experience) and the salary range presented here is for the Consultant level.
Responsibilities of the role
We are looking for an equipment designer who has experience as a theatrical technical director or a systems integrator/installer of lifts, rigging, or lighting systems. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary design team working with owners, architects, and project managers to deliver high-quality equipment systems for performance venues, immersive environments, themed entertainment, retail, education, and corporate environments. As part of our equipment design team, you will design and document packages for lifts, rigging systems, and other theatrical equipment, including load-supporting infrastructure, specifications, and layout of positions, equipment, and control systems. You will coordinate with the design team to determine the system requirements and ensure systems are integrated with the architecture and other trades, document the design in the form of drawings and specifications, and commission the systems once your design has been installed.
You are someone who is comfortable with and enjoys learning new software and equipment. While experience with Revit and Autocad is a plus, the eagerness to learn these applications is the only prerequisite. As part of the job, we’ll expect you to:
• Design and lay out theatrical equipment systems • Work in 2D and 3D CAD and BIM platforms to develop designs and documentation • Apply theatrical and entertainment best practices and approach to your work and advise other team members on same • Prepare equipment schedules and equipment budgets • Prepare design narratives and advisory documentation • Perform client and sales work in North America, including travel • Use and maintain the methods and tools outlined by Theatre Projects’ standards and practices guidelines • Participate in team meetings, cross-departmental duties as assigned, and collaboration sessions • Provide onsite services as required by the project scope
We’re looking for someone who will contribute their own perspective, skills, and experience to our projects. Specifically, we’re looking for someone with some combination of the below:
• Technical experience, especially as a theatrical TD, professional integrator, or professional installer in lifts, rigging, or lighting systems • Experience in industry standard software platforms such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Sketchup • Familiarity with Rhino3D, Dynamo, and similar software • Experience in theatre, themed entertainment, sports venues, immersive environments, architecture, or a similar industry • Ability to communicate complex concepts to clients in an engaging and interactive way • Ability to meet deadlines with an accurate work product • Ability to problem-solve and prioritize tasks from multiple sources • Ability to work as part of a team • Ability to document designs using approved methods of standards and practice • Self motivation • Fluency in English, both spoken and written • Proof of legal right to work in the United States
Our project work is international, so if you speak a foreign language, that’s a bonus. While you’ll be office-based for the majority of the time, the job may require occasional travel.

What we offer
