Lee Nel

Senior Consultant, New York

Lee is passionate about designing spaces that support artistic creativity. She’s been designing public and performance spaces since 2006 through strategic planning studies as well as auditorium designs, building planning and programming, budgeting, detailed construction documentation, and monitoring site progress throughout construction and close out.

Lee joined us from Charcoalblue, where she was the project manager and theatre designer for the Stages Repertory Theatre in Houston and a designer on the Perelman Center in New York as well as on the Massey Hall renovation in Toronto. Before that, she worked at Zubatkin Owner Representative, where she managed several theatre renovation projects, including New York’s Hudson Theatre and The New Victory Theater and the Clark Art Institute Auditorium in Williamstown, MA. Lee spent most of her formative years training with Hugh Hardy as a project architect at H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture. Her project work there included the Dimenna Center for Classical Music, the Marriott Marquis Theater, the new home for Signature Theatre, and the Schuster Concert Hall and Creative Arts Center at Wright State University in Dayton, OH.

Lee holds a Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in theatre arts from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and she currently supports students as a guest critic for an architectural crit session there. She’s an associate member of the American Institute of Architects, an accredited member of the US Green Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), and a Revit whiz!

Our Team

It takes a village to create a special place for a community to call home. Our team brings together specialists with backgrounds in the performing arts, architecture, mechanical engineering, lighting design, acoustics, and more to offer a holistic approach to creating, renovating, or repurposing all forms of storytelling spaces. We understand the decisions that need to be made at every stage of the project and we know how to make a performance space work for artists, audience, and production teams.
