Mark Stroomer

Managing Director, London

A theatre architect and head of design at Theatre Projects, Mark specializes in auditorium and stage design for performance spaces for all forms of drama, dance, and music. Spaces he’s designed range from small-scale children’s theatres and intimate drama spaces to world-class concert halls and iconic opera houses.

Since Mark made the switch from more conventional architecture to theatres in 1992, he’s been fortunate to work with some of the biggest names in theatre and music—from Stephen Daldry and Bill Alexander to opera companies in Oslo and Linz, and orchestras like Northern Sinfonia and LA Philharmonic. But no matter what type of space he’s designing—or who he’s collaborating with—his focus is always on creating vibrant spaces where the audience feels a strong connection to the performer. For him, a big part of this process is listening and negotiating with artists, users, and other designers, as well as considering every possible consequence of design decisions and how they might affect the visitor and user experience in the space.

He’s appeared as a guest speaker in major cities around the world including, London, Oslo Beijing and Shanghai. Mark is a registered member of the Architects Registration Board and the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Our Team

It takes a village to create a special place for a community to call home. Our team brings together specialists with backgrounds in the performing arts, architecture, mechanical engineering, lighting design, acoustics, and more to offer a holistic approach to creating, renovating, or repurposing all forms of storytelling spaces. We understand the decisions that need to be made at every stage of the project and we know how to make a performance space work for artists, audience, and production teams.
