Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Shonda Rhimes Performing Arts Center
As one of the nations most acclaimed dance schools, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy was in need of a new faculty to accommodate a growing roster of students and support the non-profit organization’s ambitions for expansion, and increased commitment to enriching lives through access to top-tier educational programming.
In support of their mission, Theatre Projects helped assess the organization’s resources, needs, and goals, and develop plans for the conversation of a former warehouse to create a new 32,000-square-foot facility with dance and performance spaces that support both their current and future ambitions. The arts center will include a 130-seat studio theatre, lobby, and connective galleries that encourage conversation, gathering, and community. In addition, several large rehearsal studios, classrooms, staff workspaces, and a outdoor terrace, all offer ample space and resources to embrace growth and nurture not only students, but the community at large.
