Diana Theatre
An adaptive reuse of the former Cine Diana, which was a movie theatre, business center, and hotel, transformed the multi-venue entertainment and commerce facility into a thriving performing arts center. The revitalized facility, which had been closed since 1995, was reborn with a 2,345-seat multipurpose theatre at its center.
The theatre, which features a full stagehouse, and complete complement of support spaces, was rebuilt by the University of Guadalajara to host large-scale touring shows as well as community and student productions. The revitalized cultural landmark is now one of the leading performing arts spaces in Western Mexico. Theatre Projects and the design team adapted the abandoned facility to create a versatile vibrant home for the arts while working carefully to preserve the building’s original grandstand, vestibule, murals, and other historic details.
