Pittsburg State University, Bicknell Family Center for the Arts
The Bicknell Family Center features two performance spaces, a grand lobby, rehearsal room, art gallery, lounges, and support spaces. Its mainstage theatre—an intimate 1,100-seat multipurpose venue—features a full fly tower, orchestra lift, adjustable acoustic “turntable walls,” and a demountable orchestra shell.
The theatre can accommodate symphony orchestras, opera, drama, dance, amplified music, and even large-scale touring acts—providing a new revenue stream and an invaluable cultural asset. Across the hall, a 250-seat courtyard theatre can be arranged in endstage or thrust configurations. Its balcony pulls the audience around the performers while a thrust stage pushes performers into the audience for an incredibly engrossing experience. Theatre Projects’ effective planning and the use of pre-cast concrete panels provided a first-class arts center at an incredible value.
