Shanghai Symphony Hall
This stunning new facility is the new home of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, which was founded in 1879, making it the oldest symphony in China. Inside a celebrated wave-like architectural form, the new 65,000 square foot facility features two world-class performance venues—a 1,200-seat vineyard-style concert hall and a 400-seat recital hall, which also functions as state-of-the-art recording facility. The main performance hall provides surround video projection and remarkable intimacy for performers and audience members—we worked with the design team to pull the seating in and around the stage, creating highly impactuful performances, undiluted by distance. The 400-seat hall is illuminated in warm wood tones and features a 360-degree balcony, encircling the performance spaces. It commonly accommodates acoustic ensembles’ recording sessions.
