Todd Haimes Theatre
The historic Selwyn Theatre was restored under the careful watch of The New 42nd Street, Inc. and in cooperation with New York City’s Historic Buildings Commission. The auditorium and stage were completely renovated while a new basement, lobby, and penthouse reception room were added. In 2024 the venue, previously called the American Airlines Theatre, was renamed the Todd Haimes Theatre in honor of Roundabout Theatre Company’s late, longtime artistic director and CEO.
The orchestra and balcony were re-raked and the boxes at circle and orchestra levels were restored. The seating was completely replaced, and the seating layout and sightlines were carefully readjusted. Award-winning scenic designer, Tony Walton, worked with us to create a unique and theatrical interior design for the auditorium. With new flexible equipment systems and infrastructure including a new grid, counterweight flying systems, and state-of-the-art lighting and sound and communications systems, the theatre can efficiently operate as a commercial Broadway venue.
