David’s approach to theatre design comes from his experience working in both theatre and architecture. His architectural training and background mean he understands the practical requirements and legal constraints for designing theatre buildings, while his experience of working in theatres during production phases means he also understands the creative visions that these spaces need to accommodate.
 
David began his theatre career at Welsh National Opera creating scenery drawings on many of their touring productions. In the following five years he joined English National Opera, where he worked alongside internationally renowned creative directors such as Sir Jonathan Miller, Matthew Warchus, and Anthony Minghella in ENO’s scenic design offices. He then moved to the Royal Shakespeare Company, working on productions including Nancy Meckler’s Romeo and Juliet and Rupert Goold’s The Tempest. He’s also worked on productions for London’s Royal Opera House, Almeida Opera, Opera North, and Glyndebourne Festival Opera—where he produced technical drawings for scenery and oversaw complex set builds for the companies.
 
David’s architectural training was completed at Oxford Brookes University, where he received his RIBA Part 3 certification. He obtained his Diploma of Architecture at the University of Brighton and his Bachelor of Arts in architecture at Oxford Brookes University.
