Williams College, ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance
This beautiful 126,000 square foot center—a combination of new construction and renovation—houses four versatile and dynamic performance spaces and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration. The center’s intimate 550-seat drama theatre features seating on three levels, a full stage, and orchestra pit. The 220-seat studio theatre is a flexible space with reconfigurable seating, moveable balconies, unique double-decker lift, and a double-height metal door which opens to a sunlit lounge area. The center also includes a beautiful, glass-walled dance studio, and the renovated Adams Memorial Theatre, which was converted from a proscenium space into an intimate 200-seat thrust theatre for the Williamstown Theatre Festival. The multiple venues and open nature of the building encourage interaction and collaboration between students. The ’62 Center’s hallways, lobbies, and lounges double as gathering spaces and the building’s central corridor runs past several glass-fronted studio spaces, allowing passersby to see the flourishing activity and creativity.
