St James Cavalier Center of Creativity
Valletta, Malta
St James Cavalier
Today’s St James Cavalier is a versatile arts center housing Spazju Kreattiv, a public cultural organization committed to promoting all forms of creative expression, awareness, and cultural exchange. The main 152-seat adaptable theatre-in-the-round is set inside a former cylindrical water reservoir. Its interior was prefabricated off-site in steel sections and lowered into the drum of the reservoir from above. Elsewhere, the cavalier’s vaults were redesigned to incorporate a 105-seat cinema and 100-seat music recital room. The theatre, together with the other various spaces around the building, is also used for seminars, lectures, masterclasses, workshops, performances, launches, and exhibitions.
