VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art & The George Bernard Shaw Theatre
The VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art comprises several art gallery spaces and the George Bernard Shaw Theatre. The center provides a space to display temporary exhibitions of local, national, and international standing, offers new spaces for Eigse Carlow Arts Festival and Visualise Carlow, and provides a home for performing arts in the city.
The 353-seat George Bernard Shaw Theatre hosts national and regional touring productions and presents locally produced work. The award-winning facility is designed to ensure optimum and dynamic presentations of dramatic works, amplified music, dance, cinema, and literary readings. As the home venue for a number of Carlow-based amateur and professional groups, the theatre is used for workshops, rehearsals, and presentations of their work. The center is also a useful resource for local schools and community groups to stage homegrown productions.
