Woolly Mammoth Theatre
Washington, DC, USA
Julia Heine/McInturff Architects
Theatre Projects designed the centerpiece of the building—a flexible 265-seat theatre—which has been called “one of the best examples of the American courtyard theatre.” The intimate space can be arranged in thrust, arena, endstage configurations and its high-tech AV systems, lighting, and robust infrastructure support unrestricted creativity. With a two-tiered lobby, two cafés, multipurpose rehearsal/event space, classrooms, and support spaces, the building gives the theatre company room to grow and matches the group’s industrious, provocative spirit with a facility equally as fluid.
