ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center
One of the first performing arts buildings to achieve LEED Silver certification, ImaginOn also forms one of the most visually arresting blocks in uptown Charlotte. The 105,000 square foot center was a collaborative venture between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. The center houses two theatre spaces—a drama theatre and a children’s theatre—as well as a children’s library at the center of the building. Although its two theatres feature plenty of curves and slopes to keep the resident theatre’s clientele of children entertained, the building is mature enough to impress parents as well. The center also includes a large, multi-story public space that contains interactive exhibits, classrooms, a video production studio, and learning labs, and serves as a gathering area and reception venue.
