Complexo Cultural Luz
São Paulo, Brazil
Herzog & de Meuron
In collaboration with the client and architect, a 205,000-square-foot arts center took shape. The project progressed through concept design and schematic design and an entire city block was cleared to make way for the facility, which was to include a 1700-seat dance theatre, 600-seat multipurpose theatre, and a 400-seat experimental theatre, rehearsal rooms, classrooms, and administrative offices. The facility continued through design development, but changes in Brazil’s political and economic climate ultimately stalled then terminated the project.
