Mercersburg Academy, Burgin Center for the Arts
This new 65,000 square foot arts center features a 600-seat multipurpose theatre, a 120-seat studio theatre, dance studio, recital and choral rehearsal halls, support spaces, and an art studio. We designed the mainstage theatre as an intimate and versatile space to accommodate many performance types, as well as performing arts education and school ceremonies.
Two balconies and side boxes wrap the audience around the stage—creating an intimate environment that benefits young actors and generates impactful performances. A demountable and scalable orchestra shell, adjustable proscenium, full fly tower, orchestra pit, stage lift, and adjustable acoustic curtains make the venue a highly versatile and creative resource. The arts center is home to the academy’s drama club and dance, instrumental music, and choral program.
