Richmond Arts District Redevelopment
We began working with the Virginia Performing Arts Foundation in 1997 and conducted several studies for them. The studies looked at the needs of the Richmond arts community and planning options for four historic venues located in downtown Richmond—the Carpenter, Empire, Landmark, and National theatres.
When Richmond’s historic theatres were due for an update, the Virginia Performing Arts Foundation commissioned us to conduct several studies to analyze the needs of the local community and develop options for four of their venues. We explored several options, ranging from limited technical upgrades to significant renovations. To date, both Carpenter Theatre and Altria Theater (formerly the Landmark Theatre) have enjoyed revitalization through extensive renovations.
