UCLA Glorya Kaufman Hall
A mix of renovation and new construction provided UCLA’s famed dance program with an versatile assortment of flexible performance and rehearsal spaces, multi-media laboratories, offices, and classrooms. The Glorya Kaufman Dance Theater was redesigned into a three-dimensional, reconfigurable performance and teaching space with telescopic seating and movable truss.
Telescopic seating risers were also added into the existing Amber Dance Studio, which can now quickly transform into a flat floor rehearsal space. A new outdoor dance pavilion was built into the existing facility. It features an enclosed dance studio which opens to a grass courtyard by way of a large sliding glass wall. The venue takes advantage of the Southern California climate and its openness invites multidisciplinary engagement. The pavilion has quickly become one of the most popular venues on campus. With these versatile facilities, UCLA has cemented its reputation as one of the premier educational dance institutions in the country.
