Teaching spaces need to do double duty—they need to nurture talent as well as prepare students for the practicalities of working in theatres outside the academic world. These spaces are often also multi-disciplinary learning environments, where the performing arts coexist alongside filmmaking, visual arts, scientific research, and other academic activities, so the facilities we create need to be a blank canvas for creativity, learning, and collaboration.
